My name is Phillip Tate. I am an American charcoal artist. In the 1960's I grew up on Chicago's South Side
I reside in Texas currently.
My passions for art come from my old neighborhood in Chicago, my father, my wife and family.

Some of my inspirations come Mr. Johnson my highschool Studio Arts teacher in 1975. from the Baroque period artists, old classical European artists inspire some of my
themes and techniques. I also like Pablo Picasso. Focusing on clarity. I try to make the picture make sense, adding just a little more detail.
Because I paint with the page upside down and from bottom to top, my method is different from some others.

I choose charcoal because it is a forgiving medium to make art with , first. My technique is to render the picture from underneath the
charcoal with blending and eraser.

I'm a certified surgical technician. So at times you may see some medical pictures.
I also have a cartoon french fry by the name of SuperChop a neighborhood advocate that does karate.
The humanism in common people is my favorite subject to paint. Also common place items.
Thank You for stopping by.
